Walthers PROTO 2000 | Diesel EMD GP38-2 | model train
The need for a prototypical medium powered, reliable road switchers was evident in the early 60′s. EMD accepted the challenge and in 1972 cranked out its first GP38-2. The 38-2′s boast a 2000 horsepower plant generated by 16 over sized cylinders.
The GP38-2 out sold it’s predecessor due to its easy to maintain modular electronics. These diesel locomotives where built to run reliably in any weather condition.
Production of the GP38-2s ran from 1972 – 1987…
