Garden Railroading – Do “YOU” Really Need a Green Thumb or Is the LOVE of Large Scale Railroading and the Outdoors Enough?
If one is going to construct a garden railroad… in a garden none the less, it would probably help to know a little about gardening.
Needles to say, you’ll be faced with all the elements of surprise in this hobby. Everything from falling limbs, to uncooperative weather. You can expect to see a gambit of foul play, most of it out of your control. Thats why large scale garden railways need a great deal of planning to avoid any unwanted situations.
Water hazards and objects on the 45mm gauge track can make for a very bad day.
This hybrid of gardening and model railroading takes real passion. It takes a true garden train lover to get down and dirty with topsoil. Never the less, garden railroading is one of the most satisfying, breath taking model train classes to fall in love with.
Garden Railways Numerically Break Down Into This Ratio –
- Garden Railways are Represented by Two Different Ratios No. 1 Scale = (1:32) and Gn3 Scale = (1:22.5)
- This translates No. 1 as (1) inch on the miniature… representing (32) inches and Gn3 Scale = (22.5) inches for every (1) inch of model.
- Garden Railway (Track) Gauge = 45mm or 1¾ (distance between “running” track)
