Wireless Throttle Control – Look MOM No Hands…
The headline above isn’t exactly accurate, it should read – Look Mom… Not As Many Wires As Before!
This is one of the undeniable benefits of having wireless cabs.
Just in case you didn’t know, cab and throttle are frequently interchanged to represent the same piece of equipment.
Hand held throttles or cabs allow you, the modeler slash operator to interact with your locomotives via a wire free remote. These units can either be radio controlled or infrared.
(WARNING!) If you set out to purchase an infrared system, be warned that many, many modelers complain of poor performance from these electromagnetic wavelength omitting devices. Not to say they don’t work, although less issues arise with radio controlled cabs.
The problem we see with infrared is exactly the problem you’ll have if you grab your T.V. remote wright now and face the opposite direction of the T.V. and try to turn the channel or reduce the volume, It just doesn’t receive the signal. You must be in direct line of site with the Television, or in the case of model trains the receiver. This can cause problems in any given scenario.
For this very reason, we at classymodeltrains.com feel radio control is the way to go, Of course this is our opinion. Ultimately you must make your own decision
In tomorrows post we’ll give you the heads up on decoders and decoder installation.
