Wm. K.Walthers, inc was formd in 1937, althoug its true beginning lies in the imagination of seven year old Billy Walthers who started collecting trains after he received his first model train as a gift for Christmas. Billys attic soon became a tiny scratch built railroad town. Billy(William K. Walthers) even published a few articles for popular train publications at the time…(1950's -1960's).

His Articles received so much response and fan mail he began making electrical controls and scratch built products for the masses. Now Walther's, ((Billy)William K. Walthers' company))… is without question in the for front of model train sales and product reliability!

Walthers PROTO 2000 | Diesel EMD GP38-2 | model train

The need for a prototypical medium powered, reliable road switchers was evident in the early 60's. EMD accepted the challenge and in 1972 cranked out its first GP38-2. The 38-2's boast a 2000 horsepower plant generated by 16 over sized cylinders.

The GP38-2 out sold it's predecessor due to its easy to maintain modular electronics. These diesel locomotives where built to run reliably in any weather condition.

Production of the GP38-2s ran from 1972 – 1987…
