Pulling Yard Duty Well Into the Forty's – Pennsylvania 0-8-8-0 Steam Engine

Built by Baldwin in 1919 the Pennsylvania 0-8-8-0 Steam Locomotives where considered in their time to be some of the most powerful reciprocating steam engines ever built.

These well fed workhorses where drafted for the Pennsylvania lines west of Pittsburgh. They pulled their duty honorably until the mid 40's when you could find one of these steamers humping cars in the yard or pulling transfer runs.

Eventually in 1945 reliable, efficient, low maintenance diesel-electric locomotives replaced the CC2s Mallet Class 0-8-8-0's, of which there where only 10 originally built by Baldwin in "1919".

The AC6000 Diesel Locomotives whether Union Pacific 7517 or CSX 618 the 6000 series locomotives are hands down some of the most powerful engines gliding across rails today. General Electric and Deutz MWM designed these 76 footers to carry 5,500 gallons of diesel fuel and provide enough brute force to hall thousands of tons of freight. You'll commonly see these "Guerrillas" rumbling across tracks at any railroad crossing throughout the country.

This Ones a Beauty – Santa Fe (2-10-10-2) 3000 Steam Locomotive

In her hay day she was the titanic of ships. This 1911 marvel of engineering was only marveled for so long before her lack of steam power at high velocities was recognized. This lack of power deprived the locomotive of enough force the to keep the cylinders in pace. She was underpowered but a marvel never the less. Tipping the scales at almost a million pounds this gigantic steam engine saw operation proudly from 1911 until 1918.

Her sleek before her times design is not to be ignored. She was a head turner then and is a head turner now.

Lionel has brought the Santa Fe 2-10-10-2 3000 Steam Engine to life for O scale modelers. We must congratulate Lionel on their first cab controlled adjustable steam and smoke effect. This beauty comes with top notch sound effects and Odyssey II Speed Control.

Similar to AMTs Acela - HHP-8 Hippo Reaches 125mph Across Northeast Corridor

Known as the Hippo to those close to her, the HHP-8 is a double ended electric passenger locomotive that has exclusive rights to the territories surrounding Baltimore all the way down the eastern cost to Washington DC.

The Sleek 8000 horsepower HPP-8 Hippo has a distictive slant nose that any speed freak would love. The Hippo has all but replaced the AEM-7. Even with a history of Unfavorable setbacks. It was noticed in 2002 that the HHP-8s had a sever problem with foul dampers within their trucks. The dampers act as shocks under trucks. Hippos where yanked from the lines re-fitted and put back to work. They have been pushing people from New York to Boston for well over a decade with safety in the forefront!

There where originally 21 Hippos built and those same locomotives are humping rails as we speak.

Conquered the Great Open Plains 70 yrs Ago and Still Chugging Along – Challenger UP3985

The Union Pacific 3985 Challenger is a monstrous 4-6-6-4 Steam Engine. His brute strength has allowed him to perform up until this very day. He is the last of two original work horses from the 40's,50's, and 60's.

His counterpart… UP 3977 is tucked away comfortably in a plush museum somewhere, we'll get back with you as to his exact location.

However as hinted at before… the magnificent UP3985 remained in operation until "2008". This makes him one of the oldest operating trains in actual use… that means with a JOB!

Lionel Has Once Again Graced Us with this Living Legend in Miraculous Detail through the Eyes of 1:48 Gauge.

The CHALLENGERS had a purpose thats for sure. The story is they where slated to be single handed heroes of pre WW2 plains States. These locomotives where to speed delivery of freight and mail in the great open plains. And thats exactly what they did!

Famous New Yorker Really from St. Louis – R30 Transit Authority

This native New Yorker was birthed by the St. Louis Car Company in 1960. These cars always came in pairs as they where joined at the hip.

After 30+ yrs of operation the New York City Transit Authority R30 was decommissioned and allowed to retire in peace.

To date we believe there are 5 of the original multi generational urban transit historians left. One of which interestingly enough is used as, of all things… an office!

There was originally a fleet 250 cars strong, each car boasting 150 horses. That translates into 50 full size men and women arriving at their destinations from a 55mph scenic trek around the Big Apple!

Famous Fourteen Car Passenger Train in O Scale – Pennsylvania GG1 Lionel

The Pennsylvania Railroads need for double headed electric passenger engines led to the timely creation of the famous Pennsylvania GG1. The GG1s main claim to fame is she has the ability to tote more than 13 cars. That means passenger cars full of eager individuals raring to get there… where ever "there" may be. In the GG1's case… lucky travelers experienced time traveling speeds in excess of 100mph… WOW!

These engines have a unique feature in that they where designed to protect their engineers by housing them in a mid chassis crew compartment. A fatal accident some year earlier sprouted this concept. In addition the GG1s sported a sleeker design than their predecessor the P-5a.

Juniata Locomotives out of Altoon, Pennsylvania spit out a whooping 139 of these predestined passsenger transports between 1938 & 1943. Their numbers ranged from #4800 – #4938. These well built electric engines ran successfully until 1983. There are only 16 hanging around these days and you'll more than likely never see these classy historical electric engines run again as it would cost far to much to refurbish their electrical power plants. So there they sit, a reminder of the days when locomotives transported the world!
