Casey Jones Village – Modelers Layout of  That Infamous Day and Historical Account

Casey Jones

Classy Model Trains recently visited the Casey Jones Motel and Museum in Jackson, Tennessee.
Known to Jacksonians as the Casey Jones Village this marvelous tourist attraction draws thousands of travelers monthly to the growing community of 90,000 plus.

Located off Highway 40 and the 45 Bypass, just 50 minutes east of Memphis, TN… Casey's legacy is perfectly preserved in a tribute befitting a king.

The famous engineer devoted his life to the rails at the sapling age of 15. The Mobil & Ohio Railroad had the privilege of his devoted service up until his decision to transfer to Illinois Central.

Eventually Casey married beautiful southern bell Janie Brady from Jackson, Tn. Janie and Casey had 3 children Charles, Helen and John. The descendants of the famous engineer can be found throughout Jackson as the grandchildren and great grandchildren call the HUB city home!

Mighty Casey sealed his fate on April 30th, 1900 as he and engine fireman Sim Webb chugged along the lines in Vaughn Mississippi. The pair where on route to Canton, Mississippi only to discover the track was blocked by a halted caboose and train just a few hundred feet in front of them. Unfortunately Mighty Casey was cruising to fast to stop the locomotive in time. Casey grabbed the break lever and held on for dear life… not his we might ad but the lives of the civilians and fellow engineers aboard the stalled train ahead and in the passenger cars in tow.

Model Train

The passenger cars never derailed as Casey held the breaks to the last second, slowing the hulking metal locomotive until it dropped to a safe speed for his fireman Sim to leap and escape harms way. Sim later recalled Caseys last words… JUMP Sim, JUMP!!!

Sim survived another 57 years and was able to recount accurate details of this well known incident. He died a living legend!

In honer of the fallen engineer and his fireman, Jackson, TN  has opened a museum in honer of the two, and even gone as far as to move his original home from West Chester Street in Jackson to the Museums location off Highway 40 and the 45 by-pass.
