The Sleek 8000 horsepower HPP-8 Hippo has a distictive slant nose that any speed freak would love. The Hippo has all but replaced the AEM-7. Even with a history of Unfavorable setbacks. It was noticed in 2002 that the HHP-8s had a sever problem with foul dampers within their trucks.
The dampers act as shocks under trucks. Hippos where yanked from the lines re-fitted and put back to work. They have been pushing people from New York to Boston for well over a decade with safety in the forefront!
There where originally 21 Hippos built and those same locomotives are humping rails as we speak.
